The District Department of Transportation (“DDOT”) is conducting a Navy Yard / Capitol Riverfront Safety Assessment. The purpose of the assessment is to determine the neighborhood’s immediate transportation improvement needs, i.e. changes to improve pedestrian, bike, and vehicular transit safety. The study was launched on late November 2018 and is expected to conclude in June 2019. Please see the attached presentation.

Navy Yard/Capitol Riverfront Safety Assessment

In preparation for this study’s kick-off, ANC Commissioner Fascett compiled a list of the community’s ongoing transportation needs, many of which the ANC has already raised with DDOT for timely action. The ANC expects DDOT to take action on these items expeditiously. The ANC also wants to recognize the transportation safety improvements in Navy Yard that DDOT was able to implement in 2018 including the I St. SE bike lane (northside), the 4th & M St. SE curb bump out, and the pedestrian safety striping at New Jersey Ave. SE & I St. SE.

Navy Yard Transportation Action List

Your input is very important as the ANC works with DDOT to improve our transportation safety. Please attend DDOT’s next meeting on the Safety Assessment (TBD, March 2019) and email 6d@anc.dc.gov if you have additional items for the list of transportation needs. Thanks!
